Paged Morąg, the Polish leader in plywood production, is supporting young athletes from the national team in sport climbing by donating plywood for the construction of a training wall. The new wall will serve the athletes of bouldering – a dynamic and demanding climbing discipline.
The future of Polish bouldering
Bouldering is a form of sport climbing that involves climbing short but very difficult routes (known as problems) at a low height, usually up to 4-5 metres. Participants do not use ropes, but climb with a belay in the form of mattresses placed on the ground. This discipline requires not only strength and endurance, but also technique, precision and the ability to solve problems on the wall quickly.
Two promising figures in professional bouldering are currently developing under the coaching of Sebastian Kurek: Oleksandr Neboha and Małgorzata Kurek. Oleksandr, originally from Ukraine, came to Poland after the outbreak of war. His most recent achievement is a first place at the Polish Championships for Younger, Younger Juniors and Juniors, held on 21 June. Małgorzata Kurek, who is a multiple Polish Climbing Champion, is one of the most successful athletes in the junior group in Europe. At the age of just 14, she won the Polish Senior Champion title in bouldering and is also the Polish Senior Champion on difficulty. She has more than 250 medals to her credit, including titles of Polish Junior, Younger Junior and Junior Champion, making her a unique figure in the climbing arena.
Paged Morąg supports climbers
Paged Morąg decided to support young climbers by donating plywood for the construction of a climbing wall. As the team’s coach, Sebastian Kurek, emphasises, the success of his charges consists not only of determination and hard work, but also appropriate training conditions.
– The new climbing wall, made of Paged plywood, will be an invaluable aid to our preparations. Plywood is even an ideal material for wall construction, as it allows repeated screwing and unscrewing of holds, steps and packs (wooden structures attached to the walls), which is crucial in climbing training. – Kurek says. Unlike OSB, Paged plywood does not warp or delaminate, but remains smooth and safe for players. Its strength and flexibility allow free construction of any formations, such as complex parcels or overhangs. Another important aspect for players is that the plywood produced by Paged Morąg is of European origin and manufactured to the highest quality standards. – he adds.
Paged is currently one of the five largest plywood producers and a significant supplier of wooden chairs in the European Union.
– As the company Paged Morąg, we supply plywood used in many industries, including construction, formwork and scaffolding, interior design, furniture, transport and packaging. This makes us all the more proud to be able to support Polish sport. I believe that such activities are of invaluable importance, and as a company we are extremely pleased that, thanks to our plywood, young climbers will gain modern and safe conditions for training, which will certainly contribute to further successes on the national and international arena.– summarised Marek Janke, Vice President of the Management Board of Paged Morąg SA for Transformation who also manages Sales and Marketing and is a climbing enthusiast.
