Paged LabTech, in cooperation with the Faculty of Chemistry of the Gdańsk University of Technology, has started work on low-emission plywood. It is an innovative idea to reduce formaldehyde and VOC emissions from finished products in the furniture industry, as well as to use environmentally safe materials.
Low-emission plywood would be a dream come true for durable, dimensionally stable, attractive in appearance and even safer materials for furniture sector. The project team expects to bring to the market plywood with formaldehyde emissions lower than the wood itself.
The project consists of three stages. The first of them is underway – the development of additives for adhesive masses that will reduce or even eliminate formaldehyde emissions. At the moment, the results are promising: 50% reduction compared to the current, commercially available plywood. The completion of this part of the project is planned for March 2022.
The next stage – the second – is the development of plywood with a formaldehyde-free binder which is safe and environmentally friendly. Paged LabTech undertakes that completing this step will take a year. Further steps, under the third stage are to be completed in January 2024.
The implementation of these ambitious goals which combine the spheres of business and ecology, the scientific and commercial world, is possible thanks to funding from the National Centre for Research and Development. We will keep you informed about the progress of this initiative.
